Le Petit Renard…a little piece of France in Kimmage Village

An exciting new addition to the village of Kimmage opened just last month, with locals already embracing Le Petit Renard (LPR) like the new neighbour they were hoping would always move in!

Situated on Sundrive Road, Le Petit Renard (the little fox…more to come on this) is the newest venture of the team behind Arty Baker the French bakery that has taken south Dublin by storm bringing fresh breads and crafted French pastries and more, to Sandymount, Kimmage, Dalkey and Grand Canal Dock since 2021.

Owners Romain Tessier and his wife Suzanne Hodgkinson have a good eye when it comes to spotting creative opportunities in local areas, and so LPR came about….

LPR, named after a chance meeting with an urban fox on a walk home from the city one late night prompted the couple to open a village wine bar that they themselves would enjoy an evening in.

The tasteful, yet quirky décor resembles a small French wine bar that could easily be at home in Paris or New York and houses an old piano at the rear for those who like a tinkle about before home time. Sustainably built, the interior features the white butcher’s tiles and memorabilia from previous occupants The Brown Pig butcher’s shop and the bar were upcycled from a salvage yard in Co. Kildare. Spot ‘the little fox’ also above the bar, a great find in a local charity shop.

Open Wednesday to Sunday from 4pm LPR serves handpicked wines from France including a small vineyard in Romain’s hometown in the Loire Valley, and also wines from Spain, Romania, Portugal and Italy.

Locals and visitors alike can sip a glass at the bar, take a pew by the window or even outside streetside on balmy evenings and enjoy a small but delicious menu of nibbles and petit plates.

The perfect accompaniment to a delicious glass of wine – crunchy smoked almonds, garlic marinated olives, saucisson sur planche – all served with the delicious bread made fresh daily by Romain and the team. Small Plates of daily fresh cheeses, charcuterie boards for sharing, creamy burrata with caramelized figs and Romain’s own delicious roasted red pepper dip which you will want to take home!

There is only one dessert on the menu and there is a reason for that – this one cannot be beaten with a glass of red – a creamy chocolate mousse with fragrant olive oil topped with crunchy hazelnuts and sea salt…
